Welcome to our page

This page is dedicated to a family event, which we refer to as "Day at the lake." It's a tradition, which started about six years ago. Each summer, our families, which include my daughter, my sister Kim and her kids, my cousin and her kids and my other cousin, take off for Beals Point located at Folsom Lake. The day begins bright and early where everyone meets at my place. We pig out on donuts, coffee and orange juice. By 9:00, we're at the lake unpacking our vehicles and laying claim to the best picnic tables. The kids take off and immediately begin exploring the beach while the women-folk begin preparing the picnic area. We lay out the tablecloths, cram the table full of fruit, salad, snacks and drinks while Kim preps the grill for barbecuing. By noon, the bbq is ready and we're chowing down.

After lunch, the rest of the day is dedicated to summer fun in the water and eating delicious bbq and snacks.

The day ends at about 6:00 PM. Although we're sunburnt, beat and drained, we always talk about next year!

The gang!

This year. . .

. . .the day was overcast, not has hot as we wanted; it even sprinkled (son-of-a...what-the??!) and we lost our favorite picnic spot to a bunch of hairy men (don't ask). But hey, that didn't stop the gang from having fun! Granted there were a few minor incidents such as cousins Janice and Karen sitting at the end of the picnic table, both deciding to retrieve a dropped napkin and in the process nearly flipped the entire table up in the air. Alas, no harm done, just a few goblets of spilled soda. Yes, you read correctly; Goblets. Jodi, bless her generous heart, bought us cool plastic goblets for this year's event. Kim dropped a chicken leg and Riku was the lucky recipient ;-) Boo dropped a ton of cookies causing Joseph to mourn the loss of his favorite cookies (he drowned his sorrow in Rice Krispy Treats). Jodi prevented our beach neighbors from taking our noodles (you go, girl!) while we all watched from our picnic tables happily stuffing our faces with the best barbecue and snacks in town. As in previous years, nobody suffered a bad sunburn although most us of did sunburn. Morgan was a little disappointed that she didn't get a sunburn; "I don't get it! I even laid out!"

Other things to note: Jane has this cool canopy she brought, we still haven't discovered a floating dead body yet, no incidents with the locals (squirrels), and yes, Morgan did get at least one of us to swim to the buoy with her.

The after effects of our day included lost snacks and Riku getting sick.

A list of things to remember for next year:
Bring lawn chairs
Serving platters
